Well hello to you
This new year is getting real as we all head back to work and exam result come out for our kiddos and those school emails and class lists begin coming thick and fast.
I’m always excited for the new school year but I am also quite nervous/apprehensive too. I was trying to explain this feeling to my non-teacher hubby this week and he really didn’t seem to get the responsibility I feel as a teacher for ensuring that all my students feel safe and ready to learn and that they are going to get the knowledge and confidence they need from me, in order for them to thrive-it’s big.
But it’s Friday-YAY and what have we been reading, wearing and playing this week?
Read
This is a little different from my normal fiction books but I am enjoying this anthology of essays about reading and the delightful power that reading can evoke. The other cool thing is that it was released to coincide with this amazing organisation’s 20th anniversary. Room to Read is a non-profit organisation that wants to change the lives of low-income communities through improving literacy and gender equality. Two issues that are most dear to my heart. Have a read and let me know what you think.
Wear
Is this when I tell you about the new shoes that have cut/grazed my foot or the clothes I intended to make over the Summer break? Perhaps I’ll save those gripes for another day. Not much happening clothes wise this week-a bit of thinking about what I should wear to school next week but that’s about it. But wait I did get this dress in the Boxing Day sales and finally wore it today-it’s a bit different than what I would normally wear but I do like it and now this is not me but a pic nabbed from Ezibuy’s website.
Play
Now this one is easy to blog about. This week I’ve been doing a little bit of thrifting. Myself and younger teen went to North Canterbury and hit up three Op Shops in Rangiora and one in Kaiapoi. Teen was after clothes and I was predictably after pottery and wooden ware. Here’s a wee sample of a couple of my thrifted goodies-it’s a little addictive finding bargains don’t you think?
